*There will be no open gym hours during Parks and Rec activities. A schedule with these activities and times will be posted outside the gym doors. The walking/running track hours will not be effected by Parks and Rec activities.

Batting/Golf Cage

This cage is for recreational use. We do not have a pitching machine so it is for practicing pitching, batting, playing catch and golf swings only.

No one shall book the cage to receive or give lessons for profit. Such behavior will result in termination of tunnel use.

 

  • Age restrictions:
    • 12 and under requires adult supervision
  • Membership: Current Recreation Center membership required for reservations.
    • Residents: Free but must have current membership and renew annually
    • Non-Residents: $50 for family or $25 for individual membership per year
  • Reservations:Online Reservations 1- 7 days in advance during scheduled hours.
    • First come, first served if not reserved.
    • Only 1 slot per day may be reserved and max of 3 per week
    • If you reserve and no show more than one time you will lose the opportunity to reserve for 1 month
  • Waiver: Required for all users and minors must have parent/guardian fill out waiver
  • Supervision: Adults responsible for minors’ actions. Misconduct leads to privilege termination.
  • Food & Drink: Other than water, is prohibited in gymnasium
  • Safety: 
    • Closed-toed shoes required, no cleats.
    • Helmet required for hitting
    • Catcher’s mask required for catching pitches
  • Language: This is a family-friendly atmosphere. No profanity or vulgarity will be tolerated.

Batting:

  • Helmets required at all times inside the cage.
  • No swinging bats outside the cage.
  • Pick up and return all balls/equipment to staff.
  • No more than 2 people in the tunnel at once

Pitching:

  • Pitchers must stand behind the provided “S screen” at all times.
  • People catching for a pitcher must have face mask

Golfing:

  • No swinging outside of the tunnel
  • 1 golfer at a time in the tunnel

Teams:

  • Roland Story Recreational team coaches may reserve the tunnel for 1 slot per week
    • All players must have completed waiver on file to participate

Membership Information

Welcome to the Story City Community Recreation Center. We desire to provide a fun, safe place for you to participate in a wide variety of recreation activities. Below you will find important information regarding the Community Recreation Center. Included is a list of rules for all patrons. Please read these rules carefully and sign the attached sheet, which states that you have read these rules and agree to follow them. If you have any questions, please feel free to give us a call at the Community Recreation Center. We would be happy to assist you in any way possible.

Fees

Those residing or who own property within the corporate limits of the city of Story City may use the Basketball Court and walking/running track at no charge. However, you still must fill out a membership application. See a copy of the city limits map here.

Non-residents may pay an annual fee or per visit. Annual fees are $25 for an individual or $50 for a family. If you prefer to pay per visit the fee is $1 per visit.

Family memberships include only immediate family members. Any visitors, friends or extended family members must pay per visit. Every member 10 and older will be issued a scan card and must use their own scan card to sign in. Sharing of swipe cards within families is not allowed. Members will not be allowed to use the facility without first signing in using their swipe card. Replacement cards are $5 each. Pass cards are not transferable to any other person and do not expire. The Community Recreation Center is not responsible for lost or stolen cards or pass cards. No refunds will be given.

1/2 court rental is $30/hr. Rentals are in two hour increments only. Larger rentals require a deposit.

The Fitness Center is not included in Rec Membership. It is run by Mary Greeley has a separate monthly fee. For more information check out their website. https://www.mgmc.org/healthy-living/fitness-center/

Membership Rules

The following list of rules applies to all patrons of the Story City Community Recreation Center. The Story City Community Recreation Center Staff reserves the right to remove from the facility any patron who has broken any of these rules. Management reserves the right to suspend or revoke the membership of a patron who repeatedly disregards the stated rules.

*The Story City Community Recreation Center Management reserves the right to make alterations to the rules at any time without notice. Any changes will be posted at the Recreation Center. It is your responsibility to periodically check for any rule changes.

  • NO KICKING BALLS
  • No fighting or foul language. We are a family facility and this behavior will NOT be tolerated.
  • No rollerblades or skates of any kind are allowed in the gym or on the track.
  • No street shoes are allowed on the courts or track.
  • No black-soled shoes are allowed.
  • No dunking or hanging from basketball rims.
  • No hanging or climbing on the curtain or any other equipment.
  • No sitting on the bleachers unless they are fully pulled out.
  • No standing in lanes or blocking traffic on the walking track.
  • No food or drink other than water will be allowed in the gym and on the track.
  • No softballs, baseballs, or bats allowed
  • No throwing or kicking balls at the curtain
  • Keep all balls and equipment in the gym.
  • No bouncing balls in the hallway.
  • Balls and equipment are not allowed on the walking track.
  • Place all equipment back in proper storage place.
  • Dodgeball and football (no kicking) only allowed with permission from staff.
  • No unaccompanied children on the track during recreation center activities. This includes using the lanes to watch activities on the gym floor.
  • Patrons must be 10 years of age or older to use the gym and 12 years or older to use the track without the supervision of a parent or guardian.
  • Children 9 and under must be supervised by a parent or guardian who is in the gym.
  • Children need to be sitting on the bleachers if their parent/sibling is participating in a recreation center activity.
