Story City Parks are open from sunrise to sunset every day. We need your help to keep our parks safe and enjoyable for all, please clean up after yourselves. All shelters are first come first serve.
It is the responsibility of the property owner to prune and trim public trees. There are a few rules with regards to tree trimming of public trees: a) Trees should be trimmed at least 15 feet above the street, 8 feet above the sidewalk, and away from traffic control signs, b) Normal pruning and clean-up (from storm damage) is the responsibility of the property owner, and c) The City is responsible for removal of dead or diseased trees on city-owned property.
In 2016, with the help of MSA, we renovated our South Park. This park went from a grass field with a weathered and enclosed shelter to a beautiful trail, open shelter, and river overlooks, one with a built-in fire pit.
